Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is caused by a bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi; it has special characteristics that make it hard for the immune system to eliminate it from the body.

Shape and surface varies: a unique shape allows it to move easily through tissues. It can also

change the proteins on its outer surface, making it difficult for the immune system to recognize

and attack it effectively.  Limited immune recognition by hiding inside cells and produces a biofilm

which shields it from antibiotics.

cause more serious symptoms, such as joint pain, neurological problems, and heart issues.
