Vibrational Sound Therapy

What to expect

Before. Wear comfortable clothes. Skip a heavy meal. Tell us about any medical conditions or implanted devices.

During. You'll feel the vibration most strongly through the parts of your body in contact with the bed. Some people find it immediately soothing. Some find it strange for the first several minutes. A few find it uncomfortable and prefer a lower intensity, which we can adjust at any time.

After. Most people report feeling calm, loose, and sometimes sleepy. Some feel nothing in particular. Both are normal. Physiological relaxation effects observed in studies tend to persist for roughly 15 to 30 minutes afterward.

Over time. We don't know how many sessions produce lasting benefit, because that hasn't been well studied. We'd rather tell you that than invent a package schedule with a number attached to it.

Who benefits

People looking for a non-pharmacological way to unwind, manage everyday stress, ease muscle tension, or support sleep. It's also used as a grounding, wordless close to talk therapy or bodywork sessions — a way to let the body settle.

Who should check with a clinician first

Vibrational Sound Therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Please speak with your physician before booking if any of the following apply:

  • Pregnancy

  • Pacemaker, cochlear implant, or other implanted electronic device

  • Recent surgery, fracture, or acute injury

  • Deep vein thrombosis, or a history of blood clots

  • Active bleeding, or a bleeding disorder

  • Low blood pressure or unstable cardiac conditions

  • Acute psychosis, or a current post-traumatic or dissociative condition

  • Epilepsy or a seizure disorder

FAQ's

Is it loud?

No. The music is at ordinary listening volume. The low frequencies are more felt than heard.  Both the sound table and the headphones have volume controls.  Together we adjust the levels as we begin your session.

Will I feel something dramatic?

Maybe not. Responses vary a lot between people. We'd rather you arrive without an expectation for what's supposed to happen.  I meet with each new client and we choose the protocol that we think will work best.

How is this different from a massage?

The vibration is generated by sound rather than by motors, and the frequencies are chosen and sequenced deliberately. Whether that difference produces different physiological effects is not fully settled.

Do the specific frequencies matter?

There's some evidence that sequenced, varying low frequencies work better than a single constant frequency. Beyond that, claims that particular frequencies target particular organs or emotions are not supported by evidence, and we don't make them.

Is it safe?

For most healthy adults, yes — it's non-invasive and no serious adverse events are reported in the literature.
